Research

The HfMDK promotes a dynamic research environment in the dialogue between scientific, artistic and interdisciplinary research approaches and represents a pluralistic understanding of research.

Research focuses on music educationmusicology and dance studies. Research activities in the field of artistic research are also ongoing under the title "Research at the School of Art" (Forschung an der Kunsthochschule). The right to award doctorates is located in Faculty 2.

Research activities at the HfMDK are correspondingly diverse. In addition to major research projects, numerous formats including symposia, conferences, lecture series, seminars and working group meetings are regularly organized.

Currently, you can earn a doctorate at the HfMDK in the subjects of musicology, music education, and dance studies and receive the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.).

In the Graduate School, doctoral candidates in music education gain further professional qualifications during their doctoral studies. Several colleges and universities in Germany and Austria have joined forces for this purpose. The program comprises 4 components and 180 credit points.
