Doctorate

At the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, the Department 2 (subjects Musicology and Music Education) and the Department 3 (subject Dance Science) award the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) on the basis of proof of special scientific qualification by means of a dissertation and an oral examination (disputation).

Admission to the doctoral program requires a master's degree or teaching degree for high schools in musicology, music education, or dance studies. The details and extended options are stated in the doctoral regulations in §4 and §5.

PhD Committee

The doctoral committee of the HfMDK is responsible for all doctoral matters and in particular for the organization of the doctorate. The doctoral committee consists of the professors and the habilitated academic staff members who represent the subjects of musicology, music education and dance studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts.
