Musicology




Musicology at the HfMDK Frankfurt is a subject that is anchored in all music-related degree programs in the form of compulsory and elective modules. The interdisciplinary range of courses includes lectures on music history and seminars from all areas of musicology.
Prof. Dr. Fabian Kolb and PD Dr. Rainer Heyink represent historical musicology and music history from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, Prof. Dr. Christina Richter-Ibáñez teaches contemporary and popular music since the 20th century as well as performance studies. Other members of staff and lecturers provide a comprehensive range of courses that changes every semester.

Graduates of the teacher training courses with music as a subject and a dissertation in musicology can go on to do a doctorate in musicology at the HfMDK. Students with other degrees may be accepted as doctoral candidates subject to certain conditions. If you are interested, please contact the subject representatives.
