New degree program: Master of Opera and Voice

The Frank­furt Uni­ver­si­ty of Mu­sic and Per­forming Arts (HfMDK) has a long and suc­cess­ful tra­di­ti­on of trai­ning sin­gers and per­for­mers for the sta­ge.

Af­ter a two-year break due to re­st­ruc­tu­ring, we are now able to of­fer the new, in­de­pen­dent Mas­ter of Ope­ra and Voice. This ad­van­ced mas­ter's de­gree fo­cu­ses on the ope­ra sta­ge, but also on other pro­fes­sio­nal fields in the evol­ving mu­sic thea­ter land­s­cape, such as the in­de­pen­dent sce­ne. At the HfMDK the­re is a strong fo­cus on con­tem­pora­ry mu­sic and its per­for­mance for­mats. This fo­cus, tog­e­ther with the many prac­ti­cal ex­pe­ri­en­ces in the sur­roun­ding mu­ni­ci­pal and sta­te thea­ters as part of the Hes­si­an Thea­ter Aca­de­my, makes stu­dy­ing in Frank­furt par­ti­cu­lar­ly at­trac­tive and opens up a wide ran­ge of ca­re­er pro­s­pec­ts.

De­spi­te the ge­ne­ral dif­fi­cul­ties on the mar­ket, the pla­ce­ment ra­tes of our sin­gers have so far been ex­tre­me­ly po­si­ti­ve. HfMDK gra­dua­tes sing at thea­ters in Stutt­gart, Leip­zig, Bonn, Mu­nich, Darm­stadt, Mainz, Ulm, Frei­burg, Ros­tock, Os­na­brück, Lü­beck, Dres­den and at Frank­furt Ope­ra, our award-win­ning lo­cal ope­ra house. Our gra­dua­tes also per­form in­ter­na­tio­nal­ly in Ge­ne­va, Zu­rich, Pa­ris, Vi­en­na, Ams­ter­dam, Stras­bourg, Co­pen­ha­gen and Glyn­de­bourne.

The high stan­dard of vo­cal trai­ning at the HfMDK Frank­furt is con­fir­med time and again by the nu­me­rous cas­ting di­rec­tors, mu­si­cal di­rec­tors and ope­ra di­rec­tors who at­tend the an­nu­al "Di­rec­tor­s' au­di­tions".

You have un­til March 1, 2024 to ap­p­ly for the Mas­ter's de­gree cour­se of Ope­ra and Voice at the HfMDK Frank­furt. The cour­se starts in the win­ter se­mes­ter 2024/25.
