Classical Voice Open Day: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which professors can I audition for?

There are currently three professors for classical voice at the HfMDK: Prof. Targler-Sell, Prof. Breedt and Prof. Heyer - you are welcome to audition for them.

Can I audition for more than one professor?

Unfortunately, for organizational reasons, auditions are only possible with one of the professors on the info day.

What repertoire do I bring to the audition?

Sing something you feel comfortable with and that shows your strengths. Preferably an aria from an opera/operetta or an art song. Please bring at least two pieces: all sheet music glued for the pianist!

What are the offers at the Open Day, why does this day exist?

On the open day we offer the following:

  • Auditions with your professor of choice, including advice,
  • Open lessons of each singing class and
  • Information sessions on music theory and aural training.

This audition is not an entrance exam! It is intended to provide an assessment and clarification of what the content and requirements are for this study program.

Can I bring my own pianist?

Of course you can. However, we have wonderful pianists here on site who can spontaneously play and accompany everything.

Can you also study pop music or musical at the HfMDK as an artistic subject?

Not in the BA and MA programs, which are the subject of the Classical Voice Open Day - here we offer studies in classical singing in the areas of Lied, opera and oratorio and related areas. Majors with a focus on popular music (including voice) are available at the HfMDK in the study program Music Teacher Training for Secondary Schools (L3).

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

No - you can come with what you feel comfortable and how you would like to present yourself.

Does the open day cost anything?

No. All events are free of charge and open to all participants interested in studying classical voice.

How long does the open day last?

The open day starts at 9:30 a.m. with registration and lasts until the afternoon. We can only calculate more precisely when the number of participants has been determined.

What else do I need to bring with me?

It is important to have legible sheet music in duplicate of your piece and a keen interest in our department and the study of classical voice.

Do I have to register?

Yes - please email infotag-gesang@orga.hfmdk-frankfurt.de with the name of your professor of choice and you will receive a time when your audition will be held on the open day.
