Dr. Ju­lia­ne Ger­land is Pro­fes­sor of Em­pi­ri­cal Mu­sic Edu­ca­ti­on in Fa­cul­ty 2

Prof. Dr. Ju­lia­ne Ger­land stu­di­ed in­stru­men­tal pe­dago­gy, ma­jo­ring in clas­si­cal gui­tar and mi­no­ring in bas­so­on and EMP, as well as mu­sic the­ra­py. Du­ring her stu­dies and prac­ti­cal pha­ses of mu­sic the­ra­py, she fo­cu­sed on the con­text of child and ado­lescent psych­ia­try and psy­cho­the­ra­py, as well as child and ado­lescent on­co­lo­gy/hema­to­lo­gy. She then com­ple­ted her doc­to­ra­te in the field of mu­sic in spe­cial edu­ca­ti­on. She taught EMP, bas­so­on and gui­tar at the mu­sic school of the city of Dort­mund for over 10 ye­ars, in­clu­ding in the Every Child an In­stru­ment pro­gram. Sin­ce April 2026 she has been Pro­fes­sor of Em­pi­ri­cal Mu­sic Edu­ca­ti­on at the HfMDK Frank­furt. From 2023 - 2026, she was Pro­fes­sor of Mu­sic Edu­ca­ti­on with a fo­cus on spe­cial edu­ca­tio­nal sup­port and in­clu­si­on at the In­sti­tu­te of Mu­sic Edu­ca­ti­on at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Müns­ter. She pre­vious­ly held the pro­fes­sor­ship for Mu­sic in Child­hood Edu­ca­ti­on and So­ci­al Fields at Bie­le­feld Uni­ver­si­ty of Ap­p­lied Sci­en­ces and the ju­ni­or pro­fes­sor­ship for Cul­tu­ral Edu­ca­ti­on and In­clu­si­on at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Sie­gen. Her work fo­cu­ses on mu­sic edu­ca­ti­on and in­clu­si­on as well as mu­sic school re­se­arch, par­ti­cu­lar­ly in re­la­ti­on to pro­fes­sio­na­li­za­ti­on pro­ces­ses for tea­chers in mu­sic edu­ca­ti­on con­texts. She deals with fun­da­men­tal ques­ti­ons of mu­sic edu­ca­ti­on in a trans­forming so­cie­ty.

HfMDK alum­na Ales­san­dra Cor­ti is sub­sti­tu­te pro­fes­sor for con­tem­pora­ry dance in Fa­cul­ty 3

The Ita­li­an Ales­san­dra Cor­ti is a cho­reo­gra­pher, per­for­mer and dance tea­cher and lives in Mainz. Ales­san­dra gra­dua­ted from the Ci­vi­ca Scuo­la di Tea­tro Pao­lo Gras­si in Mi­lan in 2001. In the same year, she mo­ved to Ger­ma­ny, whe­re she still lives and works to­day. In a ca­re­er span­ning more than 20 ye­ars, Ales­san­dra has worked pri­ma­ri­ly as a dan­cer and cho­reo­gra­pher at va­rious Ger­man sta­te thea­ters, in­clu­ding the Bre­men Thea­ter, the Ol­den­burg Sta­te Thea­ter and the Mainz Sta­te Thea­ter. She has worked with in­ter­na­tio­nal­ly re­now­ned cho­reo­graph­ers such as Gar­ry Ste­wart, Guy Weiz­mann and Roni Ha­ver, Ina Chris­tel Jo­han­nes­sen, Omar Ra­jeh, Ann Van den Broek, Koen Au­gus­ti­j­nen and Ro­sal­ba Tor­res, Jo Strøm­gren, Alex­an­dra Wai­er­stall, Sharon Eyal and Wen Hui. Along­si­de her dance ca­re­er, Ales­san­dra de­ve­lops her cho­reo­gra­phic re­se­arch around the con­cept of sto­ry­tel­ling, ex­plo­ring the fine ba­lan­ce bet­ween rea­li­ty and fic­tion. Her work mo­ves fluid­ly bet­ween dance, thea­ter and vi­su­al arts. She has crea­ted works for com­pa­nies such as tanz­mainz and Bal­lett­Com­pa­gnie Ol­den­burg as well as for Thea­ter Wre­de+, Schau­spiel­haus Es­sen and Thea­ter Ober­hau­sen. Her cho­reo­gra­phic work also in­clu­des pie­ces for young au­di­en­ces and solo per­for­man­ces. Ales­san­dra is a gra­dua­te of the MA CoDE at the HfMDK.

Tho­mas Hu­ber is a sub­sti­tu­te pro­fes­sor for role and sce­ne stu­dies in Fa­cul­ty 3

Tho­mas Hu­ber com­ple­ted his ac­ting trai­ning at the Folk­wangschu­le in Es­sen-Wer­den. From 1989 to 1993, he was part of the en­sem­ble at the Na­tio­nal­thea­ter Mann­heim, af­ter which he mo­ved to the Düs­sel­dor­fer Schau­spiel­haus. From 2005 to 2009 he was a mem­ber of the en­sem­ble at Schau­spiel Leip­zig and from 2009 to 2016 in the en­sem­ble of Schau­spiel Frank­furt, af­ter which he was a mem­ber of the en­sem­ble at the Re­si­denz­thea­ter. He has worked with Ka­rin Bei­er, Da­vid Bösch, Ma­te­ja Ko­lež­nik, Tina La­nik, Hans Neu­en­fels, Amé­lie Nier­mey­er, Oli­ver Ree­se and Mi­cha­el Thal­hei­mer, among others. At the same time, he de­ve­lo­ped an in­ten­si­ve work for film and te­le­vi­si­on and took on a va­rie­ty of ro­les - from the in­con­spi­cuous fa­mi­ly man to the sha­dy cha­rac­ter. He has also ap­peared in in­ter­na­tio­nal pro­duc­tions and has re­cei­ved several awards for his per­for­man­ces. In ad­di­ti­on to his ac­ting work, he has trans­la­ted plays by Ten­nes­see Wil­liams, Eric Bo­gosi­an, Tim Firth and Tim Crouch, among others.

Ken Schu­mann is sub­sti­tu­te pro­fes­sor for string cham­ber mu­sic in Fa­cul­ty 1

Ken Schu­mann is a vio­li­nist and cham­ber mu­si­ci­an. He stu­di­ed vio­lin with Zak­har Bron at the Co­lo­gne Uni­ver­si­ty of Mu­sic and Dance and with Tho­mas Bran­dis and Hei­me Mül­ler at the Lü­beck Uni­ver­si­ty of Mu­sic. He re­cei­ved im­portant cham­ber mu­sic im­pul­ses from the Al­ban Berg Quar­tet, Rai­ner Schmidt (Ha­gen Quar­tet) and Eber­hard Feltz, among others. in 2009, he foun­ded the Schu­mann Quar­tet, with which he per­forms in­ter­na­tio­nal­ly and has re­cei­ved nu­me­rous awards, in­clu­ding the Opus Klas­sik and the Ger­man Re­cord Cri­tics' Award. In ad­di­ti­on to his con­cert ac­tivi­ties, he de­vo­tes him­s­elf in­ten­si­ve­ly to tea­ching and gi­ves in­ter­na­tio­nal mas­ter clas­ses for vio­lin and cham­ber mu­sic.

El­naz Sey­e­di is a sub­sti­tu­te pro­fes­sor of com­po­si­ti­on and mu­sic theo­ry in Fa­cul­ty 2

El­naz Sey­e­di stu­di­ed com­po­si­ti­on with Young­hi Pagh-Paan, Jörg Bir­ken­köt­ter, Gün­ter Stein­ke, Cas­par Jo­han­nes Wal­ter and Mi­cha­el Reu­den­bach at the Hoch­schu­le für Küns­te Bre­men, the Folk­wang Uni­ver­si­ty of the Arts Es­sen and the Hoch­schu­le für Mu­sik Ba­sel. She was a scho­l­ar­ship hol­der of the Fried­rich Ebert Foun­da­ti­on, the DAAD and the En­sem­ble Mo­dern Aca­de­my (IEMA) Frank­furt am Main. Other pri­zes and scho­l­ar­ships in­clu­de the Bernd Alois Zim­mer­mann Scho­l­ar­ship of the City of Co­lo­gne, Stutt­gart Com­po­si­ti­on Pri­ze, re­si­den­cy scho­l­ar­ship of the Bar­tels Fon­da­ti­on in Ba­sel, Künst­ler­hof Schrey­ahn, Jun­ge Aka­de­mie der Aka­de­mie der Küns­te in Ber­lin, Vil­la Wald­ber­ta in Mu­nich, Ger­man Stu­dy Cen­ter in Ve­ni­ce and Ci­vi­tel­la Ra­nie­ri Foun­da­ti­on.
