New professors in the summer semester 2026
Dr. Juliane Gerland is Professor of Empirical Music Education in Faculty 2
Prof. Dr. Juliane Gerland studied instrumental pedagogy, majoring in classical guitar and minoring in bassoon and EMP, as well as music therapy. During her studies and practical phases of music therapy, she focused on the context of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, as well as child and adolescent oncology/hematology. She then completed her doctorate in the field of music in special education. She taught EMP, bassoon and guitar at the music school of the city of Dortmund for over 10 years, including in the Every Child an Instrument program. Since April 2026 she has been Professor of Empirical Music Education at the HfMDK Frankfurt. From 2023 - 2026, she was Professor of Music Education with a focus on special educational support and inclusion at the Institute of Music Education at the University of Münster. She previously held the professorship for Music in Childhood Education and Social Fields at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and the junior professorship for Cultural Education and Inclusion at the University of Siegen. Her work focuses on music education and inclusion as well as music school research, particularly in relation to professionalization processes for teachers in music education contexts. She deals with fundamental questions of music education in a transforming society.

HfMDK alumna Alessandra Corti is substitute professor for contemporary dance in Faculty 3
The Italian Alessandra Corti is a choreographer, performer and dance teacher and lives in Mainz. Alessandra graduated from the Civica Scuola di Teatro Paolo Grassi in Milan in 2001. In the same year, she moved to Germany, where she still lives and works today. In a career spanning more than 20 years, Alessandra has worked primarily as a dancer and choreographer at various German state theaters, including the Bremen Theater, the Oldenburg State Theater and the Mainz State Theater. She has worked with internationally renowned choreographers such as Garry Stewart, Guy Weizmann and Roni Haver, Ina Christel Johannessen, Omar Rajeh, Ann Van den Broek, Koen Augustijnen and Rosalba Torres, Jo Strømgren, Alexandra Waierstall, Sharon Eyal and Wen Hui. Alongside her dance career, Alessandra develops her choreographic research around the concept of storytelling, exploring the fine balance between reality and fiction. Her work moves fluidly between dance, theater and visual arts. She has created works for companies such as tanzmainz and BallettCompagnie Oldenburg as well as for Theater Wrede+, Schauspielhaus Essen and Theater Oberhausen. Her choreographic work also includes pieces for young audiences and solo performances. Alessandra is a graduate of the MA CoDE at the HfMDK.
Thomas Huber is a substitute professor for role and scene studies in Faculty 3
Thomas Huber completed his acting training at the Folkwangschule in Essen-Werden. From 1989 to 1993, he was part of the ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, after which he moved to the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. From 2005 to 2009 he was a member of the ensemble at Schauspiel Leipzig and from 2009 to 2016 in the ensemble of Schauspiel Frankfurt, after which he was a member of the ensemble at the Residenztheater. He has worked with Karin Beier, David Bösch, Mateja Koležnik, Tina Lanik, Hans Neuenfels, Amélie Niermeyer, Oliver Reese and Michael Thalheimer, among others. At the same time, he developed an intensive work for film and television and took on a variety of roles - from the inconspicuous family man to the shady character. He has also appeared in international productions and has received several awards for his performances. In addition to his acting work, he has translated plays by Tennessee Williams, Eric Bogosian, Tim Firth and Tim Crouch, among others.

Ken Schumann is substitute professor for string chamber music in Faculty 1
Ken Schumann is a violinist and chamber musician. He studied violin with Zakhar Bron at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and with Thomas Brandis and Heime Müller at the Lübeck University of Music. He received important chamber music impulses from the Alban Berg Quartet, Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet) and Eberhard Feltz, among others. in 2009, he founded the Schumann Quartet, with which he performs internationally and has received numerous awards, including the Opus Klassik and the German Record Critics' Award. In addition to his concert activities, he devotes himself intensively to teaching and gives international master classes for violin and chamber music.

Elnaz Seyedi is a substitute professor of composition and music theory in Faculty 2
Elnaz Seyedi studied composition with Younghi Pagh-Paan, Jörg Birkenkötter, Günter Steinke, Caspar Johannes Walter and Michael Reudenbach at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, the Folkwang University of the Arts Essen and the Hochschule für Musik Basel. She was a scholarship holder of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the DAAD and the Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) Frankfurt am Main. Other prizes and scholarships include the Bernd Alois Zimmermann Scholarship of the City of Cologne, Stuttgart Composition Prize, residency scholarship of the Bartels Fondation in Basel, Künstlerhof Schreyahn, Junge Akademie der Akademie der Künste in Berlin, Villa Waldberta in Munich, German Study Center in Venice and Civitella Ranieri Foundation. Performances at the Donaueschinger Musiktage, Lucerne Festival, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, Wien Modern, Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Biennale Arte - La Biennale di Venezia, Eclat Festival Stuttgart, Gaudeamus Muziekweek Utrecht, Ultraschall Festival für Neue Musik Berlin, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Festival Mixtur Barcelona, Now! Festival Essen, Biennale of Contemporary Music Bremen and Tehran Electroacoustic Music Festival. Her portrait CD "a sun of one's own" was released in 2024 by Edition zeitgenössischer Musik/Wergo. Seyedi's compositions are published by Topus Musikverlag, Berlin.
