What happens when baroque soundscapes meet contemporary dance? When rhythmic ecstasy between tarantella, techno and percussion meets choreographic precision? With FALLING INTO TIME, students of the BA Dance course at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) will present three dance evenings at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm from 28 to 30 May 2026, each of which interweaves different times, styles and artistic styles.

A total of six choreographic works - including three world premieres - will open up a multi-layered panorama of contemporary dance to the audience. The focus is on the creative encounter between dance, historical interpretation practice and percussion: a lively dialog between sound and movement, structure and improvisation, past and present.

A new production is being created under the direction of Prof. Hannah Shakti Bühler together with percussion students from Prof. Emil Kuyumcuyan's class. Bühler, whose most recent works deal intensively with traditional dance rhythms as well as punk and techno aesthetics, is developing a choreographic work full of energy, physicality and musical tension with the students.

In addition, two further world premieres will be created with the internationally renowned choreographers Yuval Pick and Julian Barnett. While Pick explores ritual forms and the interplay between individual and group in his works, Barnett combines influences from Butoh and improvisation to create a physically intense movement language.

A special item on the program is the reinterpretation of "SONATEN" by choreographer and BAtanz alumnus Richard Oberscheven. Second-year students will encounter live music from the field of historical interpretation practice, presented by students from Prof. Eva Maria Pollerus' class. This creates a fascinating connection between historical interpretation practice (HIP) and contemporary dance.

The evening will be complemented by works from this year's winter dance project. The range of pieces reveals the diversity of artistic methods - from somatic practices and improvisation technologies to complex choreographic scores.

The BAtanz program and Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm have been working closely together for many years. With FALLING INTO TIME, the two institutions are continuing their cooperation and creating a professional production and performance framework for young artists. The students not only gain insights into the work processes of an internationally networked production house, but also experience the inspiring power of interdisciplinary collaboration within the HfMDK.

FALLING INTO TIME: an evening of dance about transitions, resonances and friction - about the question of how time is inscribed in the body. And an evening that arouses curiosity about the future of dance in Frankfurt.
