Pih­la Jaa­la is a so­ci­al worker and dan­cer from Fin­land, cur­r­ent­ly stu­dy­ing at Uni­ver­si­ty of Mu­sic and Per­forming Arts in MA CoDE pro­gram. She com­ple­ted a Mas­ter`s de­gree of So­ci­al Sci­en­ces in so­ci­al work at Uni­ver­si­ty of Eas­tern Fin­land 2020.

Jaa­la en­rol­led to North Ca­re­lia Edu­ca­ti­on Con­sor­ti­um Ou­to­kum­pu, Vo­ca­tio­nal Qua­li­fi­ca­ti­on in Dance 2021. In gui­d­ance of tea­chers Ka­ta­ri­i­na Vähä­kal­lio, Ulla Päi­vik­kö and Kat­ja Mu­stonen, she got in­tro­du­ced to con­tem­pora­ry dance. Edu­ca­ti­on fo­cu­sed on va­rie­ty of prac­tices such as con­tact im­pro­vi­sa­ti­on, per­forming prac­tices, so­ma­tic prac­tices and ana­to­my.

From the stu­dies at MA CoDE Jaa­la seeks in­ter­na­tio­nal in­ter­di­ci­pli­na­ry col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons. Her in­te­rest is in craf­ting sustainab­le at­ten­d­a­ble com­mu­nities to ex­plo­re with body and mo­ve­ment in ar­tis­tic pro­ces­ses. This, she ex­pe­ri­en­ces also in on­go­ing work with the in­ter­di­sci­pli­ne­ry collec­tive Vä­kivä (found 2022) ba­sed in Jy­väs­kylä Fin­land. With art and with pe­dago­gi­cal work Jaa­la ad­dres­ses ques­ti­ons, the­mes, ide­as, sto­ries and al­ways ex­plo­re the sur­roun­ding rea­li­ty, co­exis­ting and ques­ti­ons the struc­tures we have built for our­sel­ves.
