Enthusiast Choir 2026 - Brahms: A German Requiem
A joint participatory project of the Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts
Application
You can apply using the application form at the bottom of this website. Everyone wishing to participate must audition for the project. An exemption from the audition can be requested (see application form).
Application deadline: December 8, 2025
For applicants from Frankfurt, the Rhine-Main area and the surrounding federal states:
- Audition: February 8, 2026, individual time slot in a small group (approx. 20-30 minutes) between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m
- The 1st movement of the German Requiem by Brahms must be prepared for the in-person audition (sheet music for download follows). The audition will take place in a small group of about five people from your own voice group.
For applicants from other European countries and outside Frankfurt, Rhine-Main and the surrounding federal states:
- Until February 15, 2026: Submission of a video recording. You will receive more detailed information after your written application.
- For the online audition, please submit a video of an excerpt of the fugue from the 3rd movement of the German Requiem:
- Soprano: measures 178-187 (up to and including "...rühret sie an")
- Alto: measures 175-183 (up to the break)
- Tenor: measures 173-180 (up to the interval)
- Bass: measures 180-189 (up to and including "...are in God's hands")
You will be notified by e-mail on February 23, 2026, if you have been selected to sing in the choir.

- Friday, March 13, 2026: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m
- Saturday, March 14, 2026: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m
- Sunday, March 15, 2026: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m
- Rehearsal weekend 2
- Friday, April 24, 2026: 6 to 10 p.m. (Enthusiast Choir plus university choir)
- Saturday, April 25, 2026: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Enthusiast Choir plus university choir)
- Sunday, April 26, 2026: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Enthusiast Choir plus university choir)
- Final rehearsals and concert
- Thursday, May 14, 2026 (Ascension Day): 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Enthusiast Choir plus university choir)
- Friday, May 15, 2026: 4 to 7 p.m. tutti rehearsal, 8 to 10 p.m. dress rehearsal
- Saturday, May 16, 2026: 4 to 5.30 p.m. rehearsal, 7 p.m. concert
Sheet music
Please bring your own sheet music of the Brahms Requiem to all rehearsals. For new purchases, sheet music (piano reduction) from Carus-Verlag, CV 27.055/03, is recommended. Other and older editions (Peters, Breitkopf etc.) are compatible and may be used as long as they have bar numbers.
