The Amelio Trio was founded in 2012 by violinist Johanna Schubert, cellist Merle Geißler and pianist Philipp Kirchner in Frankfurt am Main. Since then, their busy concert schedule has taken them to venues such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Klangbrücken Festival in Hanover and other European countries. For May 2023, they have been booked by the Piano Trio Fest (CH) for a spin-off concert of the festival.

The young ensemble is a prize winner of various international competitions. For example, in March 2022 it was awarded the 1st prize of the International Schumann Chamber Music Prize, and in summer 2022 they won the 2nd prize of the Gianni Bergamo Chamber Music Competition in Lugano.

As soloists, the members can look back on concerts with orchestras such as the hr-Sinfonieorchester or the Göttinger Sinfonieorchester. They have also received scholarships from the German National Academic Foundation, the Jürgen Ponto Foundation, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and Yehudi Menuhin - Live Music Now.

The three musicians study at the conservatories in Hanover and Cologne and, after many years of work with Angelika Merkle, are currently being taught by Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet) and Stefan Heinemeyer (Atos Trio). They received further musical impulses at master classes with Eberhard Feltz and members of the Fauré Quartet, the Artemis Quartet, Tetzlaff Quartet and the Vienna Piano Trio.
