Library breaks new ground with e-book acquisition

The "re­source­ful" li­bra­ry user has long sin­ce no­ti­ced: as ear­ly as March 2022, more than 26,000 on­line pu­bli­ca­ti­ons (e-books, e-scores,...) were made ac­ces­si­ble via the Uni­ver­si­ty Li­bra­ry's on­line ca­ta­log. The­se tit­les are li­cen­se-free tit­les or tit­les from the na­tio­nal li­cen­ses.

Sin­ce sum­mer 2023, the li­bra­ry has been ac­qui­ring e-books from the utb li­bra­ry plat­form and ma­king them avail­ab­le via the on­line ca­ta­log. Here you can find tit­les from selec­ted pu­blishers from Ger­ma­ny, Aus­tria and Switz­er­land. Ac­cess to the purcha­sed tit­les is un­restric­ted wi­t­hin the uni­ver­si­ty and of­fers down­load, copy and print func­tions. Uni­ver­si­ty mem­bers log in from out­si­de the uni­ver­si­ty with their uni­ver­si­ty ac­count (Shib­bo­leth ac­cess).

In No­vem­ber, Chan­cellor Kers­tin Hort-Schelm si­gned the lar­ge Pro­quest Ebook Cen­tral con­tract. It is now pos­si­ble to purcha­se e-books from other Ger­man and in­ter­na­tio­nal pu­blishers. De­pen­ding on the purcha­se op­ti­on, the­re is ac­cess for one or three si­mul­ta­ne­ous or un­li­mi­ted users. Out­si­de the uni­ver­si­ty net­work, uni­ver­si­ty mem­bers log in with their uni­ver­si­ty ac­count. Plea­se re­mem­ber to clo­se your ac­count af­ter use so that the tit­les are avail­ab­le to other peop­le.

Coope­ra­ti­on with other pu­bli­shing plat­forms is plan­ned.
