Communicative movement as a contribution to strengthening oneself

In the workshop, we experience our physical boundaries through exercises with the group, consciously strengthen our space and make contact with others. We reflect on our role in different contexts and practise setting boundaries for others.

The aim is to become more aware of our own boundaries and to actively regulate our own proximity and distance behavior.

Contact improvisation jams are a good learning ground for exercises on consent. It was in this scene in the 1990s that I experienced the first scores on refusing contact. At that time, the "first rule" in contact improvisation was still the "first rule", taking care of oneself and thus placing the responsibility on the recipient and not on the performer to say "NO". This developed particularly through the work of Michele Beaulieux, a US American dancer and theorist, to make searching/sensing/asking for a "YES" the task of consent/agreement and thus to distribute the responsibility to both partners in order to achieve safer brave spaces.

Agency as creative practice - tools and approaches to transform hierarchies

Drawing on the diverse experiences of dancersconnect as well as their personal insights, Victoria McConnell and Ana Torre offer an interactive session in which they present tools and approaches to strengthen embodied agency and communication of students, dancers and dance educators and create space for exchange and discussion.

In artistic education and in the professional dance context, hierarchies shape the way we learn, collaborate and create. They can foster personal growth, community building and artistic development, or they can reinforce silence, victimization and perceived inequalities. In this presentation, we invite students and teachers to reflect on how power structures operate in our everyday practice, offering tools and approaches such as:

• utopian thinking
• embodied communication
• critical thinking and strategic planning
• collective action

Together we ask how we can change power relations through awareness raising, communication and collective action.

The student parliament invites you to a moderated discussion format: We briefly classify the topic of abuse of power and make visible the many forms it can take in the university context. Above all, however, we show: There are specific, confidential points of contact at our university for those affected and people who want to assess their situation. We provide insights, answer questions and encourage people to seek support.
