Mission Statement

The Senate of the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts adopted this mission statement at its meeting on February 10, 2014.

We - the students, the teachers and the members of the administration - have developed it in a participatory and transparent process.

On the basis of this mission statement, we - the students, the teaching staff and the members of the administration - develop our standards for quality and evaluation and thus shape the future of the university.

Self-image

Self-image

Freedom of art, generosity, intuition and passion define the spirit of our university.
Self-determination of the individual, acceptance of divergent views and critical awareness shape our self-image.

We are Hessen's University of Music, Theatre and Dance and an important institution in Hessen's cultural life.

We act on behalf of society.

Our community is international.

We see ourselves as an active partner in a wide-ranging environment of regional, national and international networks and renowned cultural institutions.

We promote innovation and interdisciplinary activities and create space for experimentation, new ways of working and artistic research.

We reflect on our artistic, pedagogical and scientific activities on the basis of safeguarding, maintaining and reinterpreting cultural heritage and help shape contemporary developments.

We are committed to making the arts accessible for everyone.

We face the rapidly changing professional perspectives and the challenges posed by demographic change, globalization and digitization.

Study, teaching and research

Study, teaching and research

The central task of the university is to educate students to become professional and socially responsible artists, educators and scientists. This includes the teaching of the arts and scientific research.

Education and training belong together.

Our understanding of education is based on the values of the Enlightenment and takes into account the demands of the 21st century.

In addition to concentrated and goal-oriented work, space for independent art practice, self-discovery and creative leisure are prerequisites for successful study.

Intensive personal supervision of students, artistically and academically active teachers, the combination of theory and practice as well as diverse projects and cooperations characterize the special quality of education at our university.

To complement our study programs, we also open the university to the society through fundraising.

Organizational culture

Organizational culture

Guiding principles of our organizational culture are transparency, cooperation, solidarity and loyalty.

We promote lively discussion and enable participation.

We treat each other with appreciation, in mutual recognition of competencies, and create an atmosphere in which authenticity and creativity can flourish.

We experience diversity as enrichment and do not tolerate discrimination. We take active action against selfishness, bullying and abuse of power.

We strive for improvement based on continuous reflection. We see potential for change in conflicts, mistakes and errors.
