Quick and hel­pful sup­port in stressful si­tua­tions

Psy­cho­lo­gi­cal stress, per­so­nal cri­ses, and dif­fi­cult life si­tua­tions can so­me­times si­gni­fi­cant­ly dis­rupt dai­ly stu­dent life. In such ca­ses, the HfMDK of­fers its stu­dents quick and easy ac­cess to pro­fes­sio­nal psy­cho­lo­gi­cal sup­port.

What does the of­fer in­clude?

Up to th­ree free ses­si­ons with an ex­ter­nal psy­cho­the­ra­pist are in­cluded. Coun­sel­ing can be con­duc­ted in Ger­man or Eng­lish in a safe, con­fi­den­ti­al set­ting. Your par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on will re­main pri­va­te – neither the uni­ver­si­ty nor your he­alth insurance pro­vi­der will be no­ti­fied.

Who is eli­gi­ble for the im­me­dia­te psy­cho­lo­gi­cal sup­port?

The im­me­dia­te psy­cho­lo­gi­cal sup­port is in­ten­ded for HfMDK stu­dents who are ex­pe­ri­en­cing stress or a cri­sis and need pro­fes­sio­nal sup­port quick­ly.

Pos­si­ble is­sues may in­clude:

  • psy­cho­lo­gi­cal stress re­la­ted to stu­dies
  • cri­sis and con­flict si­tua­tions
  • an­xie­ty, low mood, or fee­ling over­whel­med
  • per­so­nal or fa­mi­ly-re­la­ted stress
  • gui­dance in fin­ding ad­di­tio­nal sup­port ser­vices

Im­portant note: 

The im­me­dia­te psy­cho­lo­gi­cal sup­port can­not re­place emer­gen­cy psych­ia­tric or psy­cho­the­ra­peu­tic care. In the event of an acu­te cri­sis or ur­gent dan­ger to yours­elf or others, plea­se cont­act the emer­gen­cy num­ber 112 or the psych­ia­tric cri­sis ser­vice in your re­gi­on. Te­le­fon­Seel­sor­ge is also available an­ony­mously 24/7 via pho­ne, chat, and email.

Who ad­vi­ses you?

Ann-Kat­rin Gho­l­ami is a li­cen­sed psy­cho­lo­gist and psy­cho­lo­gi­cal psy­cho­the­ra­pist spe­cia­li­zing in be­ha­vi­oral the­ra­py. Her tre­at­ment are­as in­clude de­pres­si­on, an­xie­ty dis­or­ders, and ob­ses­si­ve-com­pul­si­ve dis­or­der. She ga­i­ned pro­fes­sio­nal ex­pe­ri­ence, among other ro­les, as a ward psy­cho­lo­gist and psy­cho­the­ra­pist at Sana Kli­ni­kum Of­fen­bach, as well as in out­pa­ti­ent psy­cho­the­ra­py. She has been working as a psy­cho­the­ra­pist at the Psy­cho­the­ra­py Cen­ter Frank­furt sin­ce 2025.

How does the im­me­dia­te psy­cho­lo­gi­cal sup­port work?

  • You can cont­act Ms. Gho­l­ami di­rect­ly via Ma­trix Chat. Ma­trix en­ables en­cryp­t­ed, real-time com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on wi­t­hout your name or the con­tent of your con­ver­sa­ti­on be­ing dis­clo­sed in any way to an­yo­ne other than Ms. Gho­l­ami and you.
  • You will ty­pi­cal­ly re­cei­ve a re­spon­se re­gar­ding the ap­point­ment wi­thin two to th­ree days. The first mee­ting can then take place wi­thin one to two weeks, as agreed.
  • All th­ree ses­si­ons will take place off-cam­pus to en­su­re the hig­hest pos­si­ble le­vel of con­fi­den­tia­li­ty.
  • At the first ses­si­on, plea­se pre­sent your stu­dent ID to ve­ri­fy that you are an HfMDK stu­dent.
  • Ms. Gho­l­ami can pro­vi­de coun­sel­ing in Ger­man or Eng­lish.

  4. Log in here with your HfMDK ac­count (ex­am­p­le: 1234@stu­dents.hfmdk-frank­furt.de)
  5. You will be re­di­rec­ted back to Ma­trix and promp­t­ed to con­firm your Ma­trix ac­count. Af­ter log­ging in for the first time, you will also be as­ked if you would like to set up key back­up or a se­cu­ri­ty ques­ti­on. We re­com­mend choo­sing one of the­se two op­ti­ons.
  6. To start a pri­va­te chat with Ms. Gho­l­ami, open the search win­dow in Ma­trix and search for Ms. Gho­l­ami or @ag­hol98:ma­trix.hfmdk-frank­furt.de, then start the chat.

The immediate psychological support program complements the existing counseling and support services offered by the HfMDK and the psychosocial counseling services provided by the Studierendenwerk. If you’re unsure which service is right for you, you can contact a counselor of your choice. All counselors will help you figure out your options and, if necessary, refer you to the appropriate service.
