Com­po­ser in Re­si­dence

In 2021, the "Com­po­ser in Re­si­dence" scho­l­ar­ship will go to the Co­lo­gne-ba­sed com­po­ser Far­zia Fallah. Du­ring her stay in Frank­furt, she will com­po­se a new work, which she will rehe­ar­se tog­e­ther with stu­dents of the HfMDK and per­form in De­cem­ber.

The com­po­ser, who was born in Tehr­an (Iran), stu­di­ed com­po­si­ti­on in Bre­men, Co­lo­gne and Frei­burg and con­vin­ced the five-mem­ber jury of ex­perts, among other things, with her stron­gly dis­tinc­tive own style, her wealth of ide­as as well as her poe­tic com­po­si­ti­ons. Du­ring her three-month stay in Frank­furt, Far­zia Fallah will com­po­se a new work, which she will rehe­ar­se tog­e­ther with stu­dents of the HfMDK and pre­sent at a por­trait con­cert at the end of the scho­l­ar­ship in No­vem­ber/De­cem­ber.

#Spe­cia­lE­di­ti­on in light of the Co­ro­na chal­len­ges

The working scho­l­ar­ship "Com­po­ser in Re­si­dence" is a 3-month working scho­l­ar­ship for fe­ma­le com­po­sers. In coope­ra­ti­on with the In­sti­tu­te for Con­tem­pora­ry Mu­sic IzM of the HfMDK, the Ar­chiv Frau und Mu­sik an­noun­ces the working scho­l­ar­ship every two to three ye­ars. Fe­ma­le com­po­sers of all ages and na­tio­na­li­ties can ap­p­ly. In view of the ex­tra­or­di­na­ri­ly dif­fi­cult si­tua­ti­on for fe­ma­le com­po­sers due to the Co­ro­na pan­de­mic, the 2021 call was di­rec­ted as a #Spe­cia­lE­di­ti­on - an ex­pli­citly na­tio­nal call - at wo­men com­po­sers wi­t­hin Ger­ma­ny.

The ar­chi­ve Frau und Mu­sik (Wo­men and Mu­sic ) emer­ged from the as­so­cia­ti­on foun­ded in 1979, In­ter­na­tio­na­ler Ar­beits­kreis Frau und Mu­sik e. V. It ar­chi­ves the mu­sic of cur­r­ent­ly around 1,800 fe­ma­le com­po­sers from the 9th cen­tu­ry to the pre­sent day and makes around 26,000 me­dia units find­able not only in an on­line ca­ta­log. On more than 100 squa­re me­ters, the re­fe­rence li­bra­ry in the hoff­manns hö­fen in Nie­der­rad is ac­ces­si­ble to all in­te­rested par­ties du­ring ope­ning hours and by ap­point­ment.
