Kron­berg Aca­de­my Mas­ter

This Mas­ter's pro­gram­me pre­pa­res mu­si­cal­ly gifted stu­dents for an in­ter­na­tio­nal ca­re­er as solo ar­tists for the in­stru­ments vio­lin, vio­la or cel­lo.

Stu­dents re­cei­ve in­st­ruc­tion from in­ter­na­tio­nal­ly re­now­ned ar­tists, en­ab­ling them to achie­ve the hig­hest le­vel of tech­ni­cal and ar­tis­tic pro­fi­ci­en­cy; de­ve­lop an in­ter­pre­ti­ve, crea­ti­ve, and broad­ly edu­ca­ted form of ex­pres­si­on; be­co­me skil­led in un­der­stan­ding the theo­re­ti­cal, his­to­ri­cal, and cul­tu­ral as­pec­ts of mu­sic; per­form alo­ne or with others; and en­ga­ge in an en­vi­ron­ment in which ar­tis­tic, in­tel­lec­tu­al, and so­ci­al skills can be nur­tu­red and de­ve­lo­ped.

Tho­se who suc­cess­ful­ly com­ple­te the aca­de­mic year gra­dua­te with a Mas­ter of Mu­sic (M.Mus.)

The pre­re­qui­si­te for ad­mis­si­on to the qua­li­fy­ing ex­ami­na­ti­on is nor­mal­ly pre­vious par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in in­ter­na­tio­nal com­pe­ti­ti­ons, mas­ter clas­ses or cham­ber mu­sic pro­jec­ts or­ga­ni­zed by or as­so­cia­ted with Kron­berg Aca­de­my.

Ad­mis­si­on to the MA pha­se of the pro­gram­me re­qui­res the suc­cess­ful com­ple­ti­on of the BA pha­se of the pro­gram­me or the pas­sing of an ap­ti­tu­de test ac­cord­ing to § 3 (in this case, the de­gree of dif­fi­cul­ty of the ap­ti­tu­de test is ba­sed on the re­qui­re­ments of the fi­nal ex­ami­na­ti­ons of the BA pha­se).

On the ba­sis of the ap­p­li­ca­ti­on do­cu­ments sub­mit­ted and in par­ti­cu­lar the DVD, a de­cisi­on will be made as to whe­ther the ap­p­li­cant will be in­vi­ted to the ap­ti­tu­de test. The de­cisi­ve fac­tor here is that the ap­p­li­cant can de­mons­tra­te solo con­cert ex­pe­ri­ence or suc­cess in re­now­ned com­pe­ti­ti­ons.

The qua­li­fy­ing ex­ami­na­ti­on in the ar­tis­tic main sub­ject lasts 30-45 mi­nu­tes.

The pre­pa­ra­ti­on of the fol­lo­wing pie­ces is ex­pec­ted:

• an etu­de
• a solo work by J.S. Bach (2 to 3 mo­ve­ments)
• a so­na­ta from the late 18th, 19th or 20th cen­tu­ry*  (2 mo­ve­ments)
• a con­cer­to from the late 18th, 19th or 20th cen­tu­ry* (1st mo­ve­ment or 2nd and 3rd mo­ve­ments)
• a cha­rac­ter pie­ce
• a work by a con­tem­pora­ry com­po­ser born in the last 70 ye­ars

* The selec­ted so­na­ta and con­cer­to should be from dif­fe­rent sty­listic pe­ri­ods

Note:

1. With the ex­cep­ti­on of the so­na­ta and the con­tem­pora­ry work, all pie­ces are to be play­ed from me­mo­ry.
2. Perhaps only a selec­tion of the pre­pa­red pie­ces will be heard at the ent­ran­ce ex­ami­na­ti­on.
3. A pia­nist will be avail­ab­le, alt­hough ap­p­li­cants are ad­vi­sed to bring their own ac­com­pa­nist.
