Requirements

Requirements

The prerequisite for admission to the qualifying examination is normally previous participation in international competitions, master classes or chamber music projects organized by or associated with Kronberg Academy.

Admission to the MA phase of the programme requires the successful completion of the BA phase of the programme or the passing of an aptitude test according to § 3 (in this case, the degree of difficulty of the aptitude test is based on the requirements of the final examinations of the BA phase).

Aptitude test

On the basis of the application documents submitted and in particular the DVD, a decision will be made as to whether the applicant will be invited to the aptitude test. The decisive factor here is that the applicant can demonstrate solo concert experience or success in renowned competitions.

The qualifying examination in the artistic main subject lasts 30-45 minutes.

The preparation of the following pieces is expected:

  • an etude
  • a solo work by J.S. Bach (2 to 3 movements)
  • a sonata from the late 18th, 19th or 20th century*  (2 movements)
  • a concerto from the late 18th, 19th or 20th century* (1st movement or 2nd and 3rd movements)
  • a character piece
  • a work by a contemporary composer born in the last 70 years

* The selected sonata and concerto should be from different stylistic periods

Note:

  1. With the exception of the sonata and the contemporary work, all pieces are to be played from memory.
  2. Perhaps only a selection of the prepared pieces will be heard at the entrance examination.
  3. A pianist will be available, although applicants are advised to bring their own accompanist.
