Grants for HfMDK students
Sponsorship Award of the Alix Steilberger Cultural Foundation
Every year, the HfMDK awards two sponsorship prizes from the Alix Steilberger Kultur-Stiftung to particularly talented third-year female students on the Bachelor's degree course in Dance (BAtanz) - in the categories of Contemporary Dance and Classical Dance respectively.
Open to female students in their third year of the BA Dance program.

Carls Scholarship
The Carls Scholarship of the HfMDK supports teacher training and master's students of music education in the development and implementation of a music education project with up to 5,000 euros. In terms of content, it should be linked to a current or already completed artistic, music didactic or music education course or can also take place as part of an academic assignment. The duration of the scholarship is up to 12 months. The scholarship amount is paid out in two installments.

Schimmelhaar grants
HfMDK students can apply for a grant for a set of new strings, new bow covers, instrument maintenance or materials. 50% of the costs can be covered up to a maximum of 100 euros against a receipt from an instrument maker's workshop or music shop.
Open to students of Artistic Training in Music (KAM) or Artistic Instrumental Training and teacher training courses.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications can be submitted at any time, there are no deadlines. Students can apply once per semester.
External funding: Artistic study programs
Ottilie Roederstein Scholarship
The annual scholarship finances the artistic realization of a project (e.g. exhibition, concert, performance, realization of a work of art) with a total funding amount of up to 40,000 euros. Only female artists (including non-binary and intersex artists) who realize the project immediately after completing their training are eligible to apply. Proof of a Hessian art college degree or ongoing studies must be provided and, in the case of persons not living in Hesse, the project must be shown at a location in Hesse. Independent artistic activity is also a prerequisite for application.

New Music Impulse
The Impuls Neue Musik funding program supports music projects that focus on the exchange between the Francophone and German-speaking cultural areas. The projects must be implemented between August 2026 and July 2027 and developed and realized in Germany, France, Switzerland or Luxembourg.

PE funding
The German Music Promotion Initiative supports young musicians and up-and-coming bands financially with the purchase of instruments, CD productions or video recordings, awards project-related scholarships and pays grants for master classes, competitions and concert projects. Applicants must be between 15 and 26 years old, have German citizenship or a special relationship to German-speaking countries and also provide proof of need. Only students of the following subjects can be supported: Piano, harp, harpsichord, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, recorder, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, percussion, chamber music ensembles.

Ernst Efinger Scholarship
Young musicians from large families with at least four children are supported by paying a monthly contribution towards music lessons, sheet music, concert clothing, master classes, instrument insurance or similar costs. The funding amount is individual and the funding period is 12 months with the possibility of extension.

Dance Foundation
Dance professionals in transition to a new profession after an active dance career can apply to Stiftung Tanz for a one-off grant (e.g. for tuition fees, course fees or travel costs). A minimum of seven years of professional activity is required, of which at least 5 years must be in Germany. Non-EU citizens require a permanent residence permit in order to apply.

Klaus Thimm Music Funding
The association Musikförderung Klaus Thimm e.V. supports the financing of musical instruments, further musical training and also promotes projects. Applicants must not be older than 30 years of age and must submit an artist profile/profile, a project description and a letter of motivation for the application.

Jütting Scholarship
The Jütting Foundation awards four scholarships of 10,000 euros each and four sponsorship scholarships of 6,000 euros each. Applications are open to music students in the subjects of piano, double bass, clarinet, trombone or harp who were born after October 15, 2003. The funding requirement is also German citizenship, a degree from a German music academy or a Polish music academy. The application must include audio-visual recordings of works from at least three eras.

Idealo scholarship
Idealo awards a full scholarship worth a total of 9,000 euros for a funding period of 12 months. Applicants should have a special talent and demonstrate above-average skills and performance.

Counseling of the Studierendenwerk
The Studierendenwerk team consists of counselors, psychologists and other specialists and is there to help you with a wide range of questions about your studies.

AmkA - Welcome and Information Center
The Office for Multicultural Affairs has a service point with various advisory services, for example on the subject of tenant protection. Foreign students can also contact their personal advisor at the Foreigners' Registration Office via the advisors at the Welcome and Information Center.
Cultural Counseling Hesse
The LKB Hessen offers cultural workers and cultural education actors in Hessen contact points for individual questions on financial support and cooperation and provides referrals to experts on topics such as energy checks, sustainability, business start-ups, organizational development, accessibility and inclusion or tax and legal issues.
Culture pass
Kultur für ALLE e.V. issues the Kulturpass, which offers heavily discounted admission to numerous cultural events. It costs a symbolic 1 euro, is valid for one year and must then be applied for again. Eligible applicants include students who receive support under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) and refugee students.
A tenner up to 25
This season, the Alte Oper is once again offering students the opportunity to purchase tickets at a reduced price.
Housing benefit
Students who are not (or no longer) entitled to BAföG can receive a rent subsidy, known as "Wohngeld", from the Housing Office, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
International students should first seek advice, as the receipt of housing benefit can affect their residence status.
