CRUX: Brass sounds and dance at the bouldering hall

A team of mul­ti­di­sci­pli­na­ry per­for­mers and ar­tists around Ro­byn Blair will pre­sent the joint pro­ject CRUX, a trans­di­sci­pli­na­ry live ex­pe­ri­ence of mo­ve­ment and sound in Frank­fur­t's Dynochrom Boul­d­er­hal­le on July 20 as part of Kunst­PAKT, whe­re brass per­for­mance meets dance boul­de­ring.

Ro­byn Blair (IEMA, horn) and Fan­ny Me­tei­er (CNSMDP, tuba) met at the Lu­cer­ne Fes­ti­val Aca­de­my and were im­me­dia­te­ly in­spi­red by their work tog­e­ther. Their pre­vious ex­pe­ri­en­ces as mul­ti­di­sci­pli­na­ry per­for­mers (con­tem­pora­ry dance, thea­ter) led them to dream up a next-le­vel art­work that fu­ses their core in­te­rests and va­lues: per­for­mance art, eco­lo­gy, ge­ne­ra­ti­ve im­pro­vi­sa­ti­on and moun­tain goats.

Lau­ra Ahu­ma­da Gar­cia (HfMDK, Dance) is a free­lan­ce dance ar­tist, edu­ca­tor and cho­reo­gra­pher in Ger­ma­ny who ex­plo­res the­mes of spon­ta­n­ei­ty, ab­sur­di­ty, sim­pli­ci­ty, La­tin Ame­ri­can fire and fin­ding tog­e­ther­ness in dance. In CRUX, she ex­pe­ri­ments with im­pro­vi­sed dance pai­red with clim­bing-in­spi­red mo­ve­ments di­rec­t­ly on the boul­der wall, which re­act to and trig­ger the sound en­vi­ron­ment crea­ted by the trio.

For CRUX, Mo­ritz Fi­scher (IEMA, sound di­rec­tion) is de­ve­lo­ping a spe­cial mo­ti­on-cap­tu­ring in­ter­face to cap­tu­re Lau­ra's mo­ve­ments so that they are trans­la­ted and trig­ger live elec­tro­nics and ligh­t­ing in real time, which or­ga­ni­cal­ly con­nect with the ac­tion on sta­ge and be­co­me part of the glo­bal ge­ne­ra­ti­ve com­po­si­ti­on as the per­for­mers im­pro­vi­se.
