FAQs about the HfMDK App

The HfMDK app is the official app of the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. It brings together important information and services related to your studies in one place and supports you in your day-to-day student life.

The HfMDK app is available for free on iOS and Android.

The app will be available starting September 25, 2026. The digital student ID will be available starting October 1, 2026.

The HfMDK app will gradually be expanded to include additional features and services. At the beginning, the app will offer the digital student ID, the Deutschlandticket, a QR code for accessing the student discount at the cafeteria, and other services related to your studies.

With the digital student ID, you can prove your student status right on your smartphone. The ID contains the information required for verification and your photo.

After logging in, you'll find your digital student ID in the app's main menu under "My Studies."

Download the HfMDK app and log in with your HfMDK credentials. Once you've successfully logged in, you can access your digital student ID and upload your photo.

The ID card displays only the information required to verify your student status.

You can add your photo directly through the app. Please select a photo in which your face is clearly visible.

The digital student ID card is valid for the current semester. The validity period is displayed on the card.

Once you have re-registered, your student ID card will be automatically updated at the start of the new semester.

Yes. The digital student ID can be displayed without an internet connection. It remains valid offline for up to four days. This also applies to the Deutschlandticket.

Yes. You can use the digital student ID on up to two devices at the same time —for example, on your iPhone and iPad.

The digital student ID serves as proof of your student status. Which organizations and services accept it as proof depends on the specific provider or organization.

To pick up the key, you must show your digital student ID at the front desk (Pforte). Please note the following new rules for key pickup at the front desk.

Effective October 1, 2026:

• Book a room in ASIMUT.
• Confirm the room reservation in ASIMUT and pick up the key at the front desk.
• To do this, open your digital student ID in the HfMDK app under “My Studies” → “Student ID” and present it at the front desk.
• By confirming the room reservation in ASIMUT, you are also confirming that you have received the key. You are responsible for the key from that point on.
• When the reserved time ends,
  • return the key to the front desk
  • OR hand it over to the person who will be using the room after you.
• Make sure that person confirms the room in ASIMUT at the same time. Responsibility for the key only transfers to the person who will be using the room after you once they have confirmed the room. Otherwise, you remain responsible for the key!

What happens if a key is not returned (or not returned on time) to the front desk?

• If you do not return a key or do not return it on time, you may be blocked from booking rooms. Anyone who passes the key on to someone else without making sure that they have confirmed the room in ASIMUT may also be blocked. In the event of a repeat offense, the block will be extended.

What happens if I lose the key?

• If a key is lost, you are liable if you were the last person to confirm the room reservation in ASIMUT. In this case, a replacement fee of €45 is due in accordance with the house rules.

No. The digital student ID contains digital security features that are displayed in the app and may not be replaced by a screenshot.

The Deutschlandticket for public transportation can be found in the HfMDK app as a QR code under “My Studies” → “Student ID.”

The digital student ID is an optional service offered by HfMDK. You decide for yourself whether you want to use it. If you cannot or do not want to use the digital student ID, you can continue to use the paper ID.

If you do not wish to use the digital student ID, you can still obtain your paper ID from the Student Affairs Office, just as before. Simply contact the Student Affairs Office.

No. You must choose one of the two options: either the digital student ID or the paper ID. You cannot use both IDs at the same time.

To log in to the HfMDK app, use your HfMDK account. The HfMDK automatically sets up an account for students. Your username consists of your student ID number and the domain @students.hfmdk-frankfurt.de.

First, check whether you have entered your HfMDK login credentials correctly and whether your HfMDK account is active. If your HfMDK account works with other services (e.g., Asimut) but you still can’t log in to the HfMDK app, contact UniNow technical support: support@uninow.de

If you encounter technical issues within the HfMDK app, you can use the UniNow support chat directly through the app. If you are unable to log in at all, you can contact UniNow support by email: support@uninow.de

If you have questions about your student status, your personal information, or your student ID card, please contact the Student Affairs Office.

First, check to see if you are using the latest version of the HfMDK app and if you are logged in with your HfMDK account. If your ID card still does not appear, please contact the Student Affairs Office.

If any information on your digital student ID card is incorrect, please contact the Student Affairs Office.

Your digital student ID is linked to your user account or the HfMDK app. If you lose your device or switch to a new one, you can set up the app again on the new device.

The app currently supports the following system versions:

Android

• Requires Android version 7.0 or later

iOS

• iPhone: Requires iOS 15.1 or later
• iPad: Requires iPadOS 15.1 or later
• iPod touch: Requires iOS 15.1 or later
• Apple Watch: Requires watchOS 6.1 or later

Note for users with older system versions: In many cases, older versions also support the app. However, full functionality cannot be guaranteed in such cases.

To use the student discount, the app automatically generates a personal QR code. You can find it under "My Studies" → "Student ID."

The QR code is valid for nine minutes, can only be used once, and is scanned directly at the cash register.

If you want to use your student discount, you must first approach the cafeteria manager and show your paper ID card every time you visit the cafeteria. The manager will verify your student status.

Then, you’ll go to the cash register with the cafeteria manager. There, she’ll hold her own card with a QR code up to the scanner. This will allow you to receive the student discount.

The app is provided by the HfMDK in collaboration with UniNow.

Only the data necessary for each function is processed. The data processed for the digital student ID and how it is processed are explained in the privacy policy for the HfMDK app.

No. Use of the HfMDK app is optional. You decide for yourself whether you want to use the app. Even if you don't use the HfMDK app, the existing offerings and services will still be available to you.
