The HessenHub (formerly "Digitally supported teaching and learning in Hessen") joint project has been running since February 1, 2019. Thirteen universities in Hesse have joined forces to develop innovative concepts for digitally supported teaching. The aim is to create didactic and technical ressources for the long-term use of new technologies and methods in teaching.

The aim of the project is to continuously develop the existing CIO/PMO structures and set up a Digital Transformation Office (DTO) at the HfMDK. The university's DTO strategically coordinates all digitalization projects with a focus on administration/infrastructure across all projects.

The Online Access Act (OZG) and its successor OZG Amendment Act (OZGÄndG/OZG 2.0) stipulate that administrative services must be offered digitally.

The project "Conceptualization of the OZG processes and the necessary system adaptations and interfaces for the Hessian universities with a focus on campus management systems" will run in Hesse until the end of 2024. The Hessian universities and the HMWK are forming a working group for this purpose. The target group of the project are applicants and students.

At the HfMDK, the following services are being implemented digitally as part of the project:

• Application for studies
• Certificates of foreign university qualifications
• Guest auditor
• Matriculation
• Semester fee
• Notification of change (e.g. change of name, address)
• Interruption of studies (leave of absence)
• Exmatriculation
• Crediting and recognition of periods of study and academic achievements
• Compensation for disadvantages

The topics of e-payment, authentication and legally compliant electronic notifications relate to several of the services mentioned.

The required services are implemented in the Campus Management System in cooperation with the Student Services Department.

By expanding the Wi-Fi network across in all buildings and outdoor areas, the university will ensure seamless and reliable internet access for all university members in future. This will ensure access to digital services, study materials and important information at all times, especially in busy teaching areas. A technical expansion concept was drawn up on the basis of comprehensive measurements and is now being implemented step by step through installations, the procurement of modern hardware and software and exchanges with other universities. The project is thus making a significant contribution to a modern, digital learning and working environment.

In the LaVaH II project, the Hessian universities are jointly developing an infrastructure for the long-term availability of digital objects. The solution is intended to secure digital content in all formats and keep it accessible in the long term - despite technological changes in data carriers, formats and software.

In addition to physical storage, it will also ensure that the objects can be reproduced and interpreted correctly and without loss.

As part of the HeBIS project, the previous library management system of the Hessian library network is being converted to the open source platform FOLIO and a central hosting infrastructure is being set up. The aim is to make library processes such as acquisitions, lending and research more modern, efficient and future-proof. The migration is being carried out in several stages and is being funded by the Hessian Digital Pact for Universities. FOLIO and the supplementary Hessian Discovery System will provide the participating libraries with a modern, flexible and uniform IT basis across the entire network.

The HfMDK is strengthening its IT security in order to reliably protect critical infrastructures, applications and data. The focus is on the availability, confidentiality and integrity of our IT services - from the secure storage of sensitive information to rapid recovery in the event of an emergency. To this end, technical protective measures are being expanded, an emergency management system established and security-relevant systems extended. The aim is to minimize cyberattacks and ensure the long-term protection of critical systems.
