BAdance: FAQ about application and aptitude test
Can I apply to the BAdance program for the winter and summer semester?
You can only apply for the BAdance program for the winter semester. Therefore, online applications can only be submitted between 15.01. and 01.04., not between 01.10. and 01.12.
Can I also apply without a high school diploma, i.e. with a vocational high school diploma or another school qualification?
Yes, you can also apply with a vocational diploma or a high school diploma. In any case, a copy of the last school report must be submitted with the application. The missing university entrance qualification can be replaced by an outstanding artistic talent (at least 19 of 25 possible points in the aptitude test) according to §54 paragraph 4 sentence 3 HHG. The artistic talent is determined in the aptitude test.
How often can I apply to the HfMDK to study dance?
You can apply for BAdance twice at our university. There was an exception due to the Corona circumstances in 2020: anyone who has applied here and failed the aptitude test will not be credited with a failed attempt.

Who is in the examination committee?
The examination committee is made up of permanent teaching faculty and teachers from the dance department with a minimum of three members.
How long does the aptitude test take?
Day 1 the qualifying examination starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 8 p.m. at the latest, day 2 it starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 7 p.m., although we will endeavor to complete the process in good time.
When will the results be announced?
The results of day 1 will be announced approximately at 8 p.m. that day. The results of day 2 will be announced approximately at 7 p.m.
What clothes should I wear for the aptitude test?
For ballet training, please wear form-fitting training clothes (leotard, tights) and slippers. For contemporary training, comfortable training clothes may be worn. Work is done both barefoot and in socks.
Do I need to bring my pointe shoes?
No, there is no training in pointe shoes in the BAdance aptitude test.
Do I get feedback for the videos I sent in?
No, for the pre-selection there is no feedback possible.
Can my companions stay in the dance department during the aptitude test?
Please note that your family and friends are not allowed in the HfMDK dance department during the exam, but are welcome to wait in the spacious foyer of the university. Carers who accompany and support applicants with disabilities or special support needs are exempt from this regulation.
Can I shower in the dance department after the aptitude test?
Yes, this is possible.
In which language will the aptitude test be held?
The presence aptitude test is held bilingually, in German and English.
