Mira Urbassek is a contemporary dance performer and teacher currently enrolled in the MA CoDE in Frankfurt, where she explores the intersection of movement and social engagement. Originally from Germany she has spend most of her time studying dance in Barcelona.

During her time in Spain, she participated in two distinct programs that allowed her to concentrate on contemporary dance techniques, improvisation, partnering, body percussion, as well as theater and dance-theater (Varium, 2020-2022).
Following two years of intensive training Mira was accepted in the young company Freebodies (2022-2024). Here she had the chance to work with national and international artists such as Nadine Gerspacher, Nico Ricchini, Rob Hayden (a.o.) which enriched her understanding of what dance can be.
Being involved in choreographic group and solo processes in and outside of the formation she has deepened her knowledge of creation and trans disciplinary art work, performing at Festivals in Spain, France, Italy and Germany.

In 2022 she also started giving classes to amateurs as well as (pre) professional dancers. In different workshop formats she put a lot of focus on bringing people together through movement despite different backgrounds and experiences in dance. Here she has worked together with Anna Llumbard (ES), Anke Hardt (DE) and Isée Viala (FR).
Many of her projects have focused on engaging young people with political topics. Mira believes it’s essential to co-create ideas, opinions, and movements with the participants rather than imposing her own. This collaborative approach encourages the development of inclusive, participatory and democratic ways of thinking and doing, viewing dance not just as something that stays in the studio but as a praxis of social engagement that can be applied to different contexts.

This is also visible in her own artistic work, where she tackles social and political topics such as the climate crises, the change of societal understanding of democracy and the shift to the right. Most recent she has created her solo „past winds“ which she performed in Barcelona (Freezone) and Kassel (Körperstürme Festival). While getting inspired form the daily life and its movement Mira searches the absurdity and understands dance as a way to open spaces to initiate a dialog between people.
