Okay, agree

Maria Alejandra Ojeda is a Colombian contemporary dancer and performer. Her journey in movement began at a young age with gymnastics and capoeira. At fourteen, she fell in love with street dance styles, particularly waacking and voguing. After three years of freestyle training and participating in waacking dance battles, she emerged as one of the first waackers in her city, Bucaramanga, under the name A.K.A. (Also Known As) Zaytha.

Following high school, she moved to Bogotá to pursue a BA in Performing Arts at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. During her studies, she learned a variety of contemporary dance techniques, including Flying Low, Piso Móvil, Release, and Dance Improvisation. She also trained in somatic practices and ballet, refining  her performance skills. Her experiences in the program sparked a deep interest in dance history, transmission, and movement research. During her studies, Maria got deeper in her research about Vogue and  Ballroom scene in Bogotà, being part of The Kiki house of Tupamaras the first kiki house in Colombia and The Royal House of De la Blanca from NY.

In 2020, she obtained  her bachelor’s degree and began her professional dance career as an apprentice dancer with the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Contemporary Dance Company in Bogota under the artistic director Sarah Storer. Since 2021, she has developed her career as a freelance dancer, collaborating on various performance projects with Colombian choreographers like Jimmy Rangel, Yovanny Matinez, Jennifer Caro. Additionally, she has worked in the commercial and entertainment sectors, dancing for a Disney Plus TV show and a Nickelodeon movie and teaching in some studios in Bucaramanga and Bogota. In 2022, she had the opportunity to choreograph her first music video for an experimental music band Pleura.

Throughout her professional journey and dance practice, her interest in dance transmission and movement research has grown significantly, becoming a vital part of her development as an artist. This curiosity about how to utilize her background to create, structure, and share alternative ways of moving moved her to Frankfurt, where she is pursuing her studies at MaCODE in HFMDK.
