Joanna Gruberska is a dancer, movement researcher and teacher. She studied at Anton Bruckner University in Linz and at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and obtained a BA degree in Contemporary Dance and Dance Pedagogy.

Her core background was ballet but her eye-opening and transformative pathway from classical to contemporary dance, was possible thanks to many teachers. Andrea Bold, the first boundary challenger, introduced different perspectives on how to read and compose movement. Martin Sonderkamp brought release technique to Joanna&rsquo;s experience with the body and gravity while Johannes Randolf and Jianan Qu were her mentors for dance technique and floor work.

Joanna&rsquo;s interest in the notion of awareness, integration and presence in the body has led her to working with patterns through improvisation and somatic practices. She is fascinated by structure and dynamic manifestations in human relations and their interconnectedness in everyday life. During a workshop on Social Choreography with Michael Klien, her improvisatory work was a key tool for observations on dance creation. She is developing a research based practice, sourcing from the question of knowledge transmission in the scope of a work with patterns. Joanna is enrolled at Ma CoDE in 2019.
