HfMDK Pop and Jazz Choir

The HfMDK Pop & Jazz Choir un­der the di­rec­tion of Prof. Fa­bi­an Senn­holz is for­med by stu­dents of the HfMDK Frank­furt from all fa­cul­ties. Sin­ce 2012, the choir has been pre­sen­ting songs from pop, gos­pel and jazz and has de­ve­lo­ped an in­de­pen­dent sound over the ye­ars - al­ways on the loo­kout for new choir sounds and cho­reo­gra­phies. Whe­ther a ca­pel­la, with beat­box and vo­cal bass or with vir­tuo­so pia­no ac­com­p­ani­ment: the choir is al­ways loo­king for the ex­tra­or­di­na­ry sound, ef­fec­tive ar­ran­ge­ments and mo­ving emo­ti­ons. The re­per­toire con­sists lar­ge­ly of ar­ran­ge­ments from their own ranks (by Lu­kas A. Schopf and Fa­bi­an Senn­holz) along with some works by well-known ar­ran­gers.

As vo­cal coach Lisa Küh­ne­mann ac­com­pa­nies the choir du­ring the wee­kly rehe­ar­sals. In ad­di­ti­on, the­re are re­gu­lar col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons and work­shops with re­now­ned jazz choirs and tea­chers from the jazz choir sce­ne, in 2021, for examp­le, with Fe­lix Pow­ros­lo.

Va­rious pro­jec­ts have ta­ken the HfMDK Pop & Jazz Choir, for examp­le, to Lon­don on a con­cert tour with a gos­pel pro­gram, to Wei­mar for con­certs with voc.com­pa­ny, or to Bot­trop to par­ti­ci­pa­te in the In­ter­na­tio­nal Gos­pel Night. In ad­di­ti­on to re­gu­lar per­for­man­ces at the HfMDK Jazz­fest "Song. Sound. Ex­pe­ri­ment.", the con­cert sche­du­le also in­clu­des re­gu­lar ap­pearan­ces in Frank­furt and the sur­roun­ding area, for examp­le at the Ad­vent con­cert of Mes­se Frank­furt, at the Rhein­gau Mu­sic Fes­ti­val or at the Brot­fa­brik.

In May 2022, the HfMDK Pop & Jazz Choir tra­v­eled to Leip­zig for the Chor­fest and sang several con­certs the­re, in­clu­ding in two com­pe­ti­ti­on ca­te­go­ries. In the ca­te­go­ry Jazz/Pop - Le­vel 1 the choir par­ti­ci­pa­ted with very good suc­cess, in the ca­te­go­ry Gos­pel - Le­vel 1 it even reached the 1st pri­ze and the pre­di­ca­te with ex­cel­lent suc­cess.
