A particularly characteristic and high-quality instrument is the Kern organ in the university's Small Hall, which was built in 1990 together with the hall by the Alsatian organ building company Kern.

This organ, which has a strong historical influence, is primarily modeled on the famous instruments of the great organ builder Johann Andreas Silbermann in Alsace, supplemented by elements of the 'Saxon' Silbermann, Gottfried, uncle of Johann Andreas.

in 2019, Quentin Blumenroeder from Haguenau near Strasbourg gave the organ an exemplary overhaul and refined its sound. Works from the classical French period in particular (Couperin, Grigny, etc.), but also works by J.S. Bach, Mendelssohn and others can now be played very well here.

Excerpts from the reopening concert in November 2019 can be found here.
