Hessen Exchange Program
For the U.S. states of Massachusetts and Wisconsin and the Australian state of Queensland, the state of Hesse offers programs that allow students to study at a university without having to pay tuition.
Prerequisites:
- Good English language skills (proof is required in some cases)
- Very good academic performance
- At the time of departure, the 3rd semester (Bachelor) or the 2nd semester (Master) must have been completed
- Good knowledge of German (for foreign students)
In Wisconsin and Queensland, a semester abroad can be taken up for the winter semester as well as for the summer semester. In Massachusetts, a semester abroad is only possible for the winter semester.

Massachusetts
Early September through January
Wisconsin
Semester 1: Late August through December
Semester 2: Early January to late May
Queensland
Semester 1: End of February to end of June
Semester 2: End of July to end of November
Some colleges have trimesters. The exact semester times can be found on the websites of the universities.
Please note that the application must be submitted to the International Office 1 year before the desired departure date!
For Massachusetts and Wisconsin the application deadline is in the winter semester, for Queensland in the summer semester. The exact deadlines are determined and announced by the International Office.
