HfMDK Con­cert Jazz­band

The Con­cert Jazz­band, di­rec­ted by Jens Hun­stein, is made up of stu­dents from va­rious de­gree pro­grams. In this lar­ge jazz en­sem­ble, pro­grams with dif­fe­rent fo­cu­ses as well as works by stu­dents are de­ve­lo­ped and per­for­med in ad­di­ti­on to clas­si­cal big band li­te­ra­tu­re.

In ad­di­ti­on to en­sem­ble play­ing, stu­dents have the op­por­tu­ni­ty to learn and de­epen the area of jazz-spe­ci­fic im­pro­vi­sa­ti­on.

Con­certs and rehe­ar­sals

In ad­di­ti­on to va­rious con­cert for­mats, the CJB re­gu­lar­ly per­forms at the HfMDK Jazz­fest. At the "Ju­gend jazzt" com­pe­ti­ti­on, the CJB achie­ved first place in the open class with ex­cel­lent re­sults.

Besi­des the ty­pi­cal big band in­stru­ments such as sa­xo­pho­nes, brass and rhythm sec­tion, ALL in­stru­ments (strings, wood­winds) are wel­co­me. Sin­gers are also wel­co­me to par­ti­ci­pa­te by ar­ran­ge­ment.

Rehe­ar­sals take place on a wee­kly ba­sis, in­crea­singly at the be­gin­ning of the se­mes­ter, and end with a con­cert at the end of the se­cond third of the se­mes­ter. Stu­dents can find the dates in the cour­se ca­ta­log of De­part­ment 2.
