The Avin Trio was founded in the fall of 2019 by Valerie Schweighofer (violin), Carlo Lay (cello) and Josefa Schmidt (piano) at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Since then, the piano trio can already look back on a busy concert schedule and has been a guest at the Mieczysław Weinberg Festival, the International Music Festival Goslar and the Summer Music Days Hitzacker, among others. At the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker 2021 the Avin Trio was part of a virtual reality video production. Audio recordings and a 360° video shoot gave festival visitors access to a virtual world on the festival motto "Schubert.JETZT!". In May 2021, the Avin Trio played live on NDR Kultur at the "Podium of the Young" in Hanover. Other recordings and concert recordings were also broadcast on Deutschlandfunk Kultur and NDR.

In the finals of the Mendelssohn University Competition, the trio was awarded the scholarship of the Elsa-Wera-Arnold Foundation in 2021.

The trio is taught by Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet), Stefan Heinemeyer (Atos Trio) and Markus Becker. The trio also gained further impulses and artistic inspiration from Igor Levit, Sol Gabetta, Gerald Fauth, Donald Weilerstein and Ulf Schneider (Trio Jean Paul), who enriched the artistic development of the ensemble.

The three musicians are scholarship holders of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Hannover and regularly play concerts in social institutions. in 2021, the Avin Trio premiered two works written for the trio by composers Benjamin Scheuer and Aigerim Seilova.
