SCHUMANN CHAMBER MUSIC PRIZE FRANKFURT 2025
From March 11 to 13, 2025, the HfMDK will be a meeting place for international chamber music ensembles. In the piano trio category, ten ensembles will compete for the Schumann Chamber Music Prize Frankfurt 2025. The final round will take place at the Alte Oper Frankfurt.
Inspiration Schumann - meeting place for chamber music
The competition was launched back in 2008 as the Commerzbank Chamber Music Prize and focused on the piano trio and piano quartet genres from the outset. It has remained true to this focus under its new name - after all, Robert Schumann was a grand master of piano chamber music. The Main metropolis also had a special significance for Robert and Clara Schumann. And because many contemporary composers still find Robert Schumann an important source of inspiration today, a work by Robert Schumann or one of his epochal companions is always a compulsory piece in the competition.
The prizes
The winning trios will be determined in three rounds of the competition. They can look forward to prizes with a total value of 18,000 euros, follow-up concerts and a media production as well as a special prize from the Schumann Society.
Following the competition, the ensembles in the final round can take part in a workshop and coaching day. The musicians work with professionals and concert organizers to hone their ensemble profile.
The jury
The renowned members of the jury - Martin Funda, Angelika Merkle, Stefan Heinemeyer, Heime Müller and Bart van de Roer - will be available to answer questions from each ensemble after the live rounds.
The venues
The second round of the international chamber music competition will be held at the HfMDK on March 11 and 12.
The final round with the awarding of an audience prize will take place on March 13, 2025 in the Mozart Hall of the Alte Oper Frankfurt as part of the renowned chamber music series of the Frankfurter Museums-Gesellschaft .
In the first part of the evening, the three finalist ensembles selected by the jury, which qualified for the final on the two previous days, will present themselves.
After a break for deliberation, the prizes will be announced in the second part of the evening, as will the audience prize.
